Hot Licks Guitar Shop has the largest and the best lesson program in all of Southern Maryland. We have 13 studios and more then 20 instructors teaching a variety of instrument types and techniques. Our program accommodates more then 500 students each week.

We offer an outstanding staff of experienced and dedicated music instructors. Teaching everything from folk to heavy metal, the instructors look forward to guiding you towards your musical goals. Mike Stacey

Mike Stacey teaches multiple styles of guitar, including: jazz, blues, rock, funk and country. You can find him here at Hot Lick’s when he is not on the road playing with The Sam Grow Band and his various other projects.

B.T. Richardson

B.T. Richardson teaches bass guitar here at Hot Licks . He is a self-taught musical artist who has traveled around the world playing with musical artists and legends as diverse as El DeBarge and Bo Diddley. Whether it’s Jazz, Blues, R&B/Soul, Gospel, Funk, Hip Hop or Roots music. He has been playing music full time since 1995. He is a member of ASCAP and AFTRA.

Broderick's Drum Picture

Broderick Robinson

Broderick teaches drums and percussion here at Hot Licks. Broderick is a Washingtonian, Master Drummer, Gospel Recording Artist, Song Writer, Music Arranger and Drum Instructor. He was inspired and encouraged by his mother, Mrs Dorothy Chappell who is a piano instructor, to pursue a career in music.

Matt Strain

Matt Strain teaches Bass and drum here at Hot Licks.  Matt a Native Washingtonian, has always had a passion for drums. He began playing in 1988, studying various styles that range from jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues. With early influences from John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), and Alex Van Halen (Van Halen), Matt quickly adapted to the power of rock drumming.
Charles Stewart

Charles Stewart

Charles teaches drums here at Hot Licks. His life of music started when he was knee high at the age of 4 playing drums and piano. At the age of 15 I gave my first musical performance, from that stage on I knew my talent had found a home.

KJ Baker

KJ Baker


KJ teaches all types or drums here at Hot Licks. He first started playing drums at age 6 where can remember setting up pots and pans and pretending it was a drum set. Seeing his interest (and probably hoping for improvement) his mom signed KJ up for drum lessons. Today, he teach because he likes to see his students get the same enjoyment and sense of accomplishment that he got when I was learning.

Gene Quade teaches vocals here at Hot Licks. Gene is a Singer, Songwriter and bassist. Gene currently plays and tours with the Sam Grow Band and  his various other music projects.

Kay Darby Finch

Kay Darby teaches piano, brass and woodwinds here at Hot Licks. She has devoted her life to the study, teaching and performance of music. At age 10, she began the study of woodwind and brass instruments through her school band programs.

Jim Queen headshot

Jim Queen

Jim Queen is a working musician who also teaches. He is a member of the Pan-Celtic Band, Iona, as fiddler, banjoist and vocalist. He is also a member of the versatile trio Metropolitan Barnyard, (with Walt Johns on guitar and Bill Hones on bass) in which he sings and plays fiddle and banjo. MB’s repertoire cuts a wide swath from bluegrass to R&B to Hot Club of France repertoire. He performs on violin/fiddle, guitar, banjo and vocals with various other bands on an as-needed basis. For students of the violin/fiddle or guitar, Mr. Queen offers a flexible path, with emphasis on the fundamentals.

Joe Palchak teaches guitar here at Hot Licks. Jstarted playing guitar at the age of 13. He focused his studies on rock, metal, jazz, classical music and music theory. Joe has performed in recording studios, school and church groups, and has played live with a number of local artists in the D. C./Metropolitan area.

Ted has been teaching acoustic and electric guitar for the past 9 years. He has instructed many different students of all ages and levels, and never uses a one-size-fits-all approach. All lessons are tailored to the individual student’s needs and interests.
